Nitrogen membranes work on the principle of selective permeation. Different Types of Nitrogen Membranes
Polymeric membranes are further categorised into hollow fibre membranes and flat sheet membranes. Hollow fibre membranes consist of a bundle of tiny, porous tubes that allow nitrogen gas to flow through while blocking other gases. These membranes have a large surface area-to-volume ratio, enabling efficient gas separation. Flat sheet membranes, on the other hand, are thin sheets with selective permeability, allowing nitrogen gas to pass through while rejecting other gases. These membranes are commonly used in nitrogen generators and gas separation units. Ceramic membranes, on the other hand, are available in various forms such as tubular, flat sheet, or monolithic structures. These membranes offer high permeability, excellent chemical resistance, and high temperature tolerance, making them suitable for demanding applications.
